CicLAvia is less then a week away, so time to start making a game plan! Along with amazing sites and sounds you’ll experience along the route, make sure you take time to recharge at the amazing eateries along the way. MacArthur Park/Westlake (all located on 7th, West of Alvarado)
Antojitos Bibi - straight outta Honduras, and muy yummy
Antojitos Bibi – Authentic Honduran cuisine. Open early for a pre-ride/walk pupusa (vegetarian style too!). 2400 W 7th St # 109, L.A. 90057 – at 7th and Parkview – across from MacArthur Park.
Mama’s Hot Tamales – not just amazing, handmade food, but last CicLAvia, they held curbside tamale-making demonstrations for the public. @mamashottamales 2124 West 7th Street, L.A. 90057
El Pulgarcito – Never had Salvadoran food? Problem solved. Fantastic seafood and soups, not to mention the “lomito de puerco al carbon” of dreams. 2226 West 7th Street, L.A. 90057
Downtown (all located on/near 7th, between Flower and Spring Street)
Casey’s – Irish Pub a block north of the route on Grand Ave., they are open early on Sunday’s, so after burning those calories biking, chow on some fish ‘n’ chips, shepherd’s pie, bangers & mash, and ice cold Bass Ale. @213Nightlife 613 South Grand Avenue, L.A. 90017
Mas Malo's stylin' interiors
Mas Malo – want to “leisurely” enjoy CicLAvia? They’ll be happy to assist in on your day of rest. The sister to its Silver Lake counterpart used to be jewelry building from the 20s. We don’t play favorites, but when you do walk in, refuse a menu and just order the carnitas marinated with Coca-Cola and OJ. Trust us. Seven Grand – we encourage responsible CicLAvia participation, so responsibly stop by a downtown favorite. The establishment isn’t normally open during the day, but wanting to accommodate thirsty Angelenos, it’s the ideal place to relax. @213Nightlife 515 West 7th Street, 2nd Floor, L.A. 90014
Fugetsu-Do – insane mochi, strawberry anco, and basically every other Japanese treat you can think of. With a bakery in back, all items are fresh, delicious and probably motivate you to get seconds. 315 East First Street, L.A. 90012
Angel City Brewery – the Los Angeles-based brewery comes to Downtown, in its new 2nd and Alameda home. While still a work in progress, take one minute to veer off the route, view the space and take in a pint. can’t remember the name but you can’t miss the PUPUSAS sign in front, it’s in downtown on the left side of the street if you’re traveling west. Stopped there for pupusas at the first CicLAvia and will be doing the same this Sunday. :9

Hmmm… now I am curious… was it in downtown proper, before you go west of the 110 Freeway (near Figueroa?)

they have a red and yellow counter and you can watch them make the pupusas. You’ll just have to guess and quest it this Sunday!

Street food is the best!!! Best last CicLAvia was a freshly squeezed limon/orange aide near McArthur Park.

Langer’s missed a huge opportunity in sticking to it’s Sunday closure during the first CicLAvia and looks like it’ll be dropping the pastrami ball once again this time around.
Next time I’m there I’m gonna urge Mr. Langer of the important need for me (and no doubt plenty of other customers) to get my No. 44 sammich on during any future CicLAvias.

Way too many good food options along the CicLAvia Route! Some faves:
Urth Cafe: Near the 4th Street Bridge on Hewitt and 5th Street. (Best organic free-range poached eggs in Los Angeles.)
Wurstküche: The beer and sausage capital of Los Angeles in the heart of the Arts District on Traction and 3rd Street.
Mikawaya: The originators of Mochi in the Japanese Village Plaza Mall off 1st Street.
Al & Bea’s: Just a few blocks from the eastern terminus of Ciclavia at Hollenbeck Park on 1st and St. Louis Street. Home to THE BEST Bean & Cheese Burrito in Los Angeles. And luckily, they are now open on Sundays.
Nickle Diner: Just off the route on Main and 5th Street. (Their Mac N Cheese rivals Cole’s.)
Cole’s: Just off the route on 6th and Main Street in the Pacific Electric Building. Oldest restaurant in Los Angeles, originator of the French Dipped Sandwich. (Their Mac N Cheese rivals the Nickle Diner’s.)
Bottega Louie: 7th and Grand. L.A.’s best crescents served with Intelligentsia coffee.
Langer’s: 7th and Alvarado. (Come back Monday.)
And finally…
Just a few blocks from the western terminus of CicLAvia on Melrose is La Fonda Antioquena at 5125 Melrose Avenue. La Fonda Antioquena is probably the best Colombian restaurant in Los Angeles. This being the Los Angeles version of Colombia’s CicLOvia, it only seems fitting to have an authentic Colombian meal on this special day.
I can’t wait to ride, walk, play, and pig out.

We are 5 blocks northwest of Hollenbeck Park (Boyle Heights), from 4th Street and Boyle Avenue go north of Boyle Avenue in front of Plaza Mariachi (Boyle Avenue & 1st Street) 1818 E. 1st Street.
Vegetarian and Vegan Choices for almost everything we serve.
Pupusas (cheese, beans, loroco, pork, mushroom, spinach, zucchini, and nopal), Tamales de Elote, Saltados (beef, chicken, or tofu), Natural Fruit Drinks (strawberry, mango, raspberry, and guanavana), Thai Iced Teas, Jamaica Drink, Tamarind Drink, Enchiladas (chicken or just cheese), Greek Salad, Cholay (garbanzo stew from India), Mango Lassi, Pozole (Pork, Chicken, or Mushrooms), Taquitos (Chicken or Potato), Caesar Salad, Fried Banana or Steamed Banana, Baked Sweet Potato, etc.

I hope more restaurants have street food this time around. I don’t want to spend Ciclavia sitting inside at a table; I want to grab something small and quick, eat it in a park, and keep riding.

What do you mean, order a pupusa at a Honduran place?!? Leave that to the Salvadoran places, and order a baleada (homemade thick flour tortilla with beans, cheese, & cream; you can also get eggs and/or avacados) at Antojitos Bibi!

I agree… that the writer asks if the reader has “Never had Salvadorean food” is a tip-off, too.
