    What metrics define “significant traditional and online social media coverage” and “considerable Latino outreach?” What other “niche target demographics” have been identified by the CicLAvia organization?

      @Bike Soup – Here’s a little more information:

      Traditional media: English language print/tv/radio

      Social media: blogs, facebook, twitter, youtube, and other online coverage

      Latino outrech: including Spanish-language print/tv/radio, and other outreach to Latino audiences, mostly focused on the communities closest to the route.

      Other niche target demographics: could include various other niches that participate in CicLAvia – such as families, wheelchair users, Bangladeshi-speakers, photographers, dog owners, skaters, historic building preservationists, elderly folks, youth, fixie-riders, etc., etc. Maybe read through this blog and see what sorts of constiuencies we’ve covered leading up to 101010 and since.

      If you or other folks have questions, post them here, and we’ll do our best to clarify.

        Oh, ok. I was really after your definition of “significant.”

        Are you interested in the consultant continuing with what’s already on FB, twitter, blogs, meetup, youtube, etc? Or are you interested in innovative, out of the box techniques to reach traditional media and the Latino market, assuming “significant” means redefining CicLAvia as more than just a bike event?

        Both the traditional and social media ecology of LA is a bit crowded for traditional techniques to cleanly break through the cacophonic din.

        @Bike Soup – Significant is going to mean demonstrated experience with similar events/campaigns/efforts. Regarding your other question – all of the above – continuing what we’ve been doing and implementing innovative strategies. As you mention, reaching beyond just bicyclists is important, too.

    Please find someone that would also do outreach in the black community. Of all the ethnic groups at the previous Ciclavia, Black people were severely underrepresented, in particular–black women. I saw Asians, Latinos, Whites but to see someone black–wow that’s a surprise.

    Ciclavia doesn’t want to run the risk of being accused of something for “white folks to do.”

      Agreed. Thanks for your commment and your upbeat critique. There were black folks there last year… but not as many as we’d like to see. We’ve been reaching out to South L.A. community groups… but we’d welcome more advice on good ways to reach out to black women.
