Vamos a la July 10th Community Ride

Come ride CicLAvia's Community Bike Ride this Sunday! Wearing a basket of bread on your head is optional.

When we announced that the July 10th CicLAvia wouldn’t be happening, we knew a lot of folks already had that day penciled in… or even written in pen… or, more likely these days, electronically recorded… on their calendars. To cushion the waves of CicLAvia withdrawal, we’re hosting a group ride instead. It’s a chance to get together and bike in the city.

The CicLAvia Community Ride will take place on Sunday July 10th 2011. Folks gather starting 12:30pm, departing 1pm from Hollenebeck Park. Suggested donation $5. No streets closed; riders obey traffic laws. More details after the jump.

The July 10th CicLAvia Community Ride meets at 12:30pm and departs promptly at 1pm from Hollenbeck Park – located on 4th Street at St. Louis Street in Boyle Heights. The ride is easy, slow pace, approximately 9 miles long, approximately 2.5 hours (finishes at Hollenbeck at about 3:30pm.) The ride will tour landmarks in neighborhood where CicLAvia expansion is planned: Boyle Heights, Chinatown, and South Los Angeles. We’ll stop at a few sites and have speakers briefly talk about community and history. Riders will follow traffic laws. It’s a group ride – not a closed-streets CicLAvia event – bikes will take the right lane and share the streets with other vehicles. Helmets legally required for riders age 18 and under. It’s definitely not a race – leisurely pace – but participants need a working bike, and the ability to ride 10 miles.

There’s a suggested donation of $5, but no one turned away. Tambien: fun CicLAvia schwag available for purchase!

Share and rsvp for the July 10th Community Ride via this facebook event.

And if you’re looking for something to do after the ride, bike down to Little Tokyo and enjoy Shady Bunch’s An Afternoon Delight at Weiland Brewery. Great music, yummy food, and a portion of the proceeds go to CicLAvia!

Disappointed the streets aren’t closed. Have to make sure my friends know about the cancellation. I believe they still think the event is on.
