CicLAvia Events in Tucson and San Francisco
CicLAvia is based on Ciclovía – the original street-closure program that started in Bogotá, Colombia, in the 1970’s. Ciclovías have now spread to cities throughout the world – Guadalajara, Oakland, New York, Miami, Quito, and many many more.
The CicLAvia blog has covered San Francisco’s Sunday Streets program earlier, including here and here. They kicked off their 2011 season yesterday, with a closure along the Embarcadero, previewed here at S.F. Streetsblog. L.A. Streetsblog was there and interviewed CicLAvia’s Stephen Villavaso.
Cyclovia Tucson hosted their first event in 2010, and they’ll be back this weekend – Sunday March 27th 2011 from 10am to 3pm. Cyclovia Tucson’s Tom Thivener sends this invitation to L.A.’s CicLAvistas:
Can’t get enough CicLAvia? Make a road trip to Tucson for our second annual “Cyclovia” next weekend. We are expecting a big crowd to turn out along their 5 mile route from downtown Tucson through the barrio neighborhoods. Good food, and plenty of activities are planned, all in the name of ‘car-free streets’ for an afternoon. If you’re interested in going visit our Facebook or webpage for more info or pics from their event last year.
