CicLAvia got a chance to check out the Valley Bikery‘s grand opening – last weekend – Saturday January 29th 2011. The Bikery is a cooperative do-it-yourself do-it-together space for repairing and maintaining bicycles. They’re kinda similar to the Bicycle Kitchen (located in the Hel-Mel Bicycle District – the western terminus of the initial CicLAvia), Bike Oven, BikeRoWave – seen in this Streetfilm video.
The new location of the Valley Bikery is at 14416 Victory Boulevard, unit 104, Van Nuys 91401. It’s on the south side of Victory, just east of Van Nuys Boulevard – a very short 6-block ride north of the Metro Orange Line Busway/Bikeway – use the Van Nuys Station. They’re current open Tuesdays from 7-10pm and Saturdays from 1-5pm.
The Valley Bikery needs you! They’re looking for volunteers and for donations of repairable used bikes, bike parts, bike tools, etc. For additional pictures of the Valley Bikery opening, see the Valley Bikery’s Facebook page and this L.A. Streetsblog article.
CicLAvia congratulates the Valley Bikery and looks forward to working with them and other Valley folks – to expand CicLAvia into the San Fernando Valley someday!
