Announcing MidDay Ridazz!!!
Maybe you’ve heard about Midnight Ridazz? It’s a very loose series of group bike rides that take over Los Angeles streets after the sun goes down. Also, it’s a crazy-popular message-board website where bicyclists exchange information.
(And, at the risk of complete uncoolness, we’ll explain that “Ridazz” is indeed pronounced more-or-less “Riders.”)
Well… at CicLAvia on October 10th 2010 (TEN * TEN * TEN) a new Ridazz takes to the street. It’s MidDay Ridazz – a new tradition – for families to ride together. MidDay Ridazz are organizing a ride where families meet at each end of the route and ride about 4 miles together to the middle! From there families can tool around on the CicLAvia route – heading to MacArthur Park together… or they can hop on the train and get back to their starting locations.
To participate in this FREE kids ride – just go to either the Bicycle Kitchen or Hollenbeck Park at 10am, and the ride departs at 10:30am. You can probably just hang out anywhere on the route, and let the ride come pick you up! Ridazzzz Riiiiide-Onnnnn! (Join MidDay Ridazz Facebook Group here!)
What’s really fun about this, is that CicLAvia didn’t really organize this at all (other than getting the cars off the street!) A group of the coolest parents we know (including Dudeonabike, El Jimmy, and DrBexx) got together and checked in with us, and put this event on our calendar. Once CicLAvia gets cars out of the street, all kinds of things can happen! We’re hearing about yoga classes, relay races, capoeira circles, and more.
One tool for making these kinds of great add-on events easy is to use meetup.com – we’ve added a button to it on the right… and we’ll be running some basic instructions soon, too. If you’ve got an event idea, you can just list it at MeetUp… or, if you want, check in with us first, by emailing info [at] ciclavia.org
