What will you do at cicLAvia?

Citizens of Los Angeles! We are working to bring you a fresh new way of experiencing space in your neighborhood, by closing down streets and making them into a park.

This carfree event is taking place all over Latin America. A few U.S. cities have tried it, including

New York

San Francisco

El Paso

and others. But they have not made it a regular feature of their streets, as it is in Bogotá, Colombia, where the event started. There 70 miles of streets close every Sunday between 7 am and 2:30 pm, and people walk to run errands, run for exercise, bike for fun, push strollers, walk dogs, walk to church, and enjoy their city in countless ways.

This is a mobile park that will show up for half a Sunday, giving us all a break from the congestion of our streets. Because really, just moving through LA can be a stressful experience. Imagine the freedom of movement you would feel if there were no cars around you! Imagine going to the farmer’s market without battling traffic!

A suggestion – What would you think about adding some links to coverage of the events in the other cities? Maybe photos, too – worth, on average, about a thousand words!
