Help Us Set the April 2011 CicLAvia Date

There are a lot of factors that go into setting the date for CicLAvia. In a place as big as Los Angeles, it’s nearly impossible to find a date with no conflicts. The CicLAvia board is looking to host the next CicLAvia event in more-or-less the same 7-mile route as we did on 10-10-10 (more on some possible tweaks – soon!) extending from East Hollywood to Boyle Heights.

We’re planning to do CicLAvia on a Sunday in April 2011 and we’d like your input on the date. We’re also polling area organizations, businesses, city agencies, Metro, etc. to get their concerns and ideas.

Are you aware of any big events that are happening in April 2011 that we should avoid competing with? Are you aware of any big events in April 2011 that we should try to dovetail with? Let us know in the comments below!

Dodgers are at home on April 3rd and 17th, and the Lakers have home games on the 3rd and 10th. Might be best to try to avoid the second CicLAvia on the same day as a Dodgers and Lakers home game.

The Songkran Thai New Year Festival closes down Hollywood Blvd between Western and Normandie; That will be on Sunday, April 3, always the first Sunday of April.

Easter Sunday will be on April 24 in 2011, lots of churches will be especially busy that day. Also April 24 is Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, so there’s usually a big demonstration in East Hollywood.

That leaves you with April 10 and 17. Being that the first CicLAvia was on 10/10/10, Having the next one also on a 10th be a good idea.

Evan: The Lakers game on 4/10/11 is at 6:30 p.m., so there will be no conflict with CicLAvia.

Cyclocross this past weekend in Griffith Park was an amazing experience. It would be awesome to see the Elite Pros from this sport riding with us across this great city, perhaps the course could pass the event venue?

The 10th or 17th would be perfectly fine for me! I’ll mark my calendars now. I’m just excited to participate next year since the flu kept me from doing it this past year.

How about after tax due date? People will be happy with a load off their back, which means April 17 would be my vote.

Another thought: our kids’ school’s spring break is the week of April 17th. That means families could be away either/both of the flanking weekends. Not saying those would be bad weekends to choose for that reason, but it’s just a consideration.

See if LAUSD’s break schedule is the same.

Love your outreach and encouragement for public participation. Thanks.

I’d like to put in another vote against April 17. That is Coachella weekend so many people will be out of town. I think CicLAvia and Coachella cater to similar crowds, so it might not be a good idea to have it this weekend.

Agreed, we usually create art at Coachella and would love to see it on the weekend before, 4/10/11 would be six months after the last event.

Not to be selfish but I’ll be out of town the first two Sundays of April, so not on 4/3 or 4/10. I’ll flail from afar if my travel schedule has me missing the Cy-quel-via!

Damn selfish, Will Campbell!!! (kidding) CicLAvia will be quarterly or better – so missing one isn’t soooo bad. Someday weekly like Bogota.

I’d like to see Ciclavia on the exact same date as coachella festival. It would be a good demonstration of how LA can do stuff without the KCRW crowd.

It should be before taxes are due, that way people will use their rebates to buy a bike for the next Ciclavia.

Here’s a vote for the 10th, just like the previous one on 101010. Avoids school holidays.
